When Ghosts Appear

In the darkness of night

The sky lit by moonlight

Thoughts of you crowd my mind

That brings sorrow, pain, and longing.

In the darkness of night

You stick to the shadows

Like a predator stalking prey

Waiting patiently for the right time to appear.

In the darkness of night

The dreams come and go

Memories of time spent

Conversations of happiness.

In the darkness of night

The pain comes

Like a blade, swift and cold

Glinting against the moonlight.

In the darkness of night

You appear, blade in hand

The pain comes swift and cold

But you look into my eyes, mirrored with pain.

In the darkness of night

You disappear into the shadows

The pain subsides

But the memories remain.

In the brightness of day

The memories linger

The emotions swell

Anxiety transcends.

In the brightness of day

You appear

Like a long-lost friend

…23 weeks of silence.

In the brightness of day

There is a glint of hope

But the pain begins to emerge

I cannot again rely solely on hope.

In the brightness of day

I struggle

I struggle to regain control

I struggle to stay in the light.

In the brightness of a new day

I am determined to win.
